Hi there,
I opened up a can of Nature's Variety Instinct beef formula this morning and found white specks all throughout the food. I have never used Nature's Variety Instinct products before; I am wondering if this is normal. I am not sure if it is a premix, fat or something else.
Thank you for your help.
FYI I haven't fed this to Eveliina because I am skeptical about what this white stuff is.

I think it's fat. Beef tallow looks like that. But if you're uncomfortable about it, give their customer service a call or e-mail. They ought to know .

Yep! Bet that is exactly what it is. But I'll also say to call their customer service line if you are concerned about it

Evo 95% canned Beef has the same white bits in it. I was told it was fat.

It's fat. Most cans will look like that, I've found even more so if it's been stored somewhere warm and then moved to a cooler area (ex. if you buy it on a warm day, keep it in your car while you do other shopping, and then move it into your home).

Ever store stew or chicken soup or something in the fridge or freezer? The fat congeals and becomes hard? That's what that white stuff is.

Thank you guys so much for your help; the problem is resolved.
What you guys predicted is correct and I also received an email back from Nature's Variety which read:
"Dear Sara,
Thank you for e-mailing!
The white substance you are seeing is congealed fat. It tends to separate more in our darker proteins like beef, lamb, and venison. We recommend that you simply stir it back in since it is part of the formula. It's perfectly normal and safe to feed. We don't include any additives in our product to help retain moisture and fat within the protein, which is why this sometimes occurs in our Instinct Canned products.
Thanks for supporting Nature's Variety!
Sincerely,
Shannon"

AHA! I've been wondering about this.
I remembered when I was feeding Cookie NV Instinct canned and I distinctly remembered that white stuff, I just ended up throwing out the can just to be safe. Good to know it is just congealed fat! Wish I had known this a bit sooner...would have saved me $1.60!

Aw, too bad you didn't know sooner! They are sending me a free coupon for the can I threw out.
